What is the race course? The race course will be a 3.1 mile trail run. Note that GPS units don't track well inside of the park, so if you use GPS to train at Rope Mill or plan to use GPS on race day, be aware that you will likely only record 2.4-2.8 miles on your device. Our course is "wheeled" so you can be sure you're running a 5k - no more, no less. The course will be well marked! We will have one aid station that you will pass twice at miles 1.5 and 2.25 - you might not need it, but we will have it just in case the summer heat gets the best of you.
To get the distance right, you will utilize loop 1 and loop 2 on the Explorer Trail, and some of loop 3. If you ran all of loop 3, it would be a 3.7 mile race, so we cut off the most technical portion of the loop to ensure you have a fast 3.1 mile route. What does it mean to "outrun the tusk"?
We will have one male and one female runner compete as "the tusk". These are some of the fastest local runners there are! If you can beat them in the 5k, we want to reward you for your efforts. Everyone who beats their gender-specific "tusk" gets free shoes. The Tusks will be announced at the start of the race so you know who you have to chase!
